Teacher education consists of three distinct stages: 1) Pre-Service Education 2) Induction 3) In-Service education. In-Service education means the education that a teacher receives after he has entered his profession. In-service education and training (INSET) is essential to update the teachers in their knowledge, skills, attitudes and competencies. The purpose of In-service education are to upgrade the teachers in such a way that they can teach effectively, improve their qualification, make themselves aware of the problems of community. To overcome the shortcomings in execution of in-service programmes and to attain the purposes of INSET programmes to a great extent, measures like well-defined policy, provision of adequate facilities, co-ordination of various agencies, selection of proper participants and resource persons, selection of research base activities, provision of material, providing incentive to teachers, formation of subject teachers, associations, evaluation of INSET programmes and follow-up work should be adopted.
