This paper on “Teaching – written Communication in English” deals with the importance of the writing skill and the need to develop it among learners for effective communication. As the saying “Pen is mightier than the sword” goes, written communication is more effective, formal and original than any other forms of communication. Writing skill is necessary to make all forms of writing such as Essay, Thesis, Note- Making, précis-writing, abstracting, Letter, Memo, Notice, Circular and Report more effective and relevant. Effective written communication is essential for a wide variety of purposes to help meet the needs of students when they finish their formal education to find a job or to take a further course of study. It is the life blood of any organization. It helps the free flow of information and the smooth internal functioning of an organization and its external transactions with outside world. If provides authentic and permanent records to an organization and contributes legal defences when litigation arise. It helps in assigning responsibilities.
